Ok ladies, this one is for you! We all know how messy are purses can get, we seem to carry most of our lives within in them. Keys, wallet, cellphone, chapstick, lipgloss, makeup, books, the list continues for many of us. We always seem to be searching for something in our bags and can never find them when we need them. So here are a few tips to help organize our purses.
1. Pockets
When buying a new purse be sure that it has lots of pockets, the more pockets the better. As women we seem to carry just about anything we could possibly need from band-aids to books. The more pockets your purse has the better you can organize with. Have you noticed when you carry a large purse that has only two zippers in it everything seems to get lost? Well there is a reason for that, your things are all being jumbled around with each step and time you put your purse down making all your formerly organized items now disorganized. When you have multiple pockets you can designate one just for your beauty products, one for your cell phone, and one for your keys. So next time you are shopping for a new purse don’t worry so much about what’s on the outside but what is on the inside.
2. Bags within Bags
Now this may sound crazy, but a great way to organize your purse is with bags. Yup, a bag within a bag! Keep your cosmetics together in a cosmetic bag, pens in a pencil case, other miscellaneous items in a plastic bag. Or if your purse doesn’t have many pockets you can use a “Kangaroo Keeper Purse” organizer (Yes as seen on TV). They actually are great for most bags, giving you an extra little tote and pockets to help keep everything in one place. It is also great because if you switch purses often you can grab it out of one purse and transfer it to another.
3. Be Rid of Waste
We all know we sometimes carry extra junk in our purses thinking one day we will use it. This however is hardly ever the case, organize your purse by ridding of waste. Throw out that old pen, receipts, or other trash helping to create a cleaner space within your purse. Don’t make your purse a place to hoard, clean it out daily or weekly to purge yourself of unwanted items. The next time you go digging for your keys you will be thanking yourself for not having to look under mountains of trash.
4. Organize your Receipts
Receipts always seem to overload your wallet and purse, so instead of letting them take over your purse organize them into an accordion organizer. This also goes for coupons and frequent buyer cards, this will not only make it easier to organize but also easier to find when you are standing in line at your favorite frozen yogurt place looking for your card to get stamped.
5. Change Isn’t Always Good
Get rid of extra change you have weighing down your purse. Change it in at a local bank or CoinStar or donate it to local charities. Don’t continue carrying around $1o worth in change when you clearly are never going to use it. Leave it at home and start a fund for a new purse with pockets or for a movie ticket. Change is good, but not when it is weighing you down.
6. Books
If you are like me and always carry a book around with you then use it to your advantage. I use my current read as an organizing tool. I use it as a barrier between my wallet or water bottle, or place it at the bottom of your bag to create a flat surface. If carrying a book around is too much of a pain consider upgrading to a digital e-reader such as a Nook to create more space within your purse. No matter what you decide get creative with your items and better utilize your space within your purse.
Organizing your purse may seem like a daunting task at first but if you follow these easy steps you will be that much closer to finding your keys next time.
