Your book collection is disorganized, disheveled and downright disgusting. You have stacks of books piled on top of each other and no idea how to organize them. Here are 6 ideas to help you organize your favorite books and display them with pride.
1. Alphabetize
An easy way to put your books is to alphabetize them, either by title or by author. This way when you are looking for something you will know exactly where they are. This makes it easier for you and any other person who is enjoying your book collection.
2. Categorize
Another way to organize your books is to categorize them by genre, such as; fiction, non-fiction, mystery, romance, biography etc. This way if you are looking for a particular type of book you know where to find them. Most bookstores categorize it by genre and then alphabetize it within the section. If you decide to do it this way it may also be easier to label each section to make sure your books are always in the right category.
3. Color Coordinate
A trendy new way to organize your books is to color coordinate them. You can do so by placing all of your red, blue, and green books all together to create a stunning looking display. You can also color coordinate by spine colors of your books, or create a hodgepodge of colors to create a unique looking design. No matter what way you decide to do it, have fun and you are bound to come up with a stunning display.
4. Favorites
A different approach to organizing your books is to categorize your favorite books together. Love Hemingway or Fitzgerald? Put them in order according to your favorites first. Or you can organize them like a your own personal reading memoir with your most current reads first going to your oldest or vice versa. Have fun with it and organize whichever way is your favorite.
5. Size
Not all books are created equal, organize them by size. Put all of your coffee table books together or all of your paperbacks in one place. Mix and match to create an interesting display. Go large to small, or small to large, or have your large books on the outside creating a natural bookend for your smaller books.
6. Style
If you don’t have a large book collection think about stylizing them with knick knacks or pictures surrounding them creating a more home like feel. Enjoy reading travel literature? Then put a picture of your favorite location next to a similar book. Create your own style, add candles, statues or anything else you enjoy on your bookshelf to give it an aesthetic that suits you and your home.
No matter how you decide to organize your books, have fun with it and relive your favorite reads. If you have too many books, think about donating them to a local library or contacting a professional organizer to help you figure out how to arrange them better.
